Kyakatebe FC emerged champions of the Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjoji Eid Adhuha Tournament after defeating Kiryasaaka FC 5-4 in a penalty shootout following a thrilling 1-1 draw in the final.
The highly anticipated match was played at Kawoko Muslim Primary School playground in Butenga Sub-county and attracted hundreds of football fans from across Bukomansimbi District.
After both sides failed to find a winner in normal time, the match proceeded to penalties, where Kyakatebe FC held their nerve to secure victory and walk away with the tournament’s top prize of Shs2 million.
Runners-up Kiryasaaka FC received Shs1.5 million, while third-placed Mizindaalo FC earned Shs1 million. Bukomansimbi Town Council FC finished fourth and was awarded Shs500,000.
The tournament was organized and sponsored by Bukomansimbi South Member of Parliament Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjoji as part of the Eid Adhuha celebrations aimed at promoting unity and talent development among young people.
Speaking after the final, Sserunjoji said the competition was intended to bring residents together regardless of their political, religious, or social backgrounds.
“The main purpose of this tournament is to unite the people of Bukomansimbi. Football has the power to bring communities together and create friendships that go beyond differences. We want our people to remain united and work together for the development of our district,” Sserunjoji said.
He pledged to continue organizing similar sporting activities during Eid celebrations and other community events.
“This tournament has become an important event in our community. We shall continue organizing it every year and use sports as a platform to identify talent, promote discipline, and strengthen social cohesion. The next Eid match will be between the sheikhs and Catholic priests,” he added.
The Supreme Khadhi of Bukomansimbi, who attended as chief guest, commended the organizers for using sports to foster unity and peaceful coexistence.
“Sports are a powerful tool for promoting friendship, brotherhood, and mutual respect. I encourage the people of Bukomansimbi to maintain the spirit of togetherness and continue supporting activities that unite our communities,” he said.
He also urged young people to embrace sports as a productive activity that can help them develop their talents and avoid negative influences.
The tournament concluded with celebrations from players and supporters of Kyakatebe FC, who lifted the trophy and prize money amid excitement and jubilation.
Local leaders and residents praised the event for providing entertainment, promoting community interaction, and strengthening ties among the people of Bukomansimbi District.
